A.P. EXAMS (Advanced
Placement Exams)
Students may take A.P. exams after taking the appropriate yearlong A.P. course.
If their test results demonstrate college level achievement, students may earn
college units or special placement. Each test is offered on campus. A fee is
charged.
A.C.T. (American
College Test)
This is an achievement test, which is required by some colleges. Students take
content specific tests. Application materials and test site listings are available
in the Career Center. A fee is charged
A.S.V.A.B. (Armed
Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
This test for sophomores, juniors, seniors not only provides feedback about a
student's aptitudes, but also reports test results in verbal, math and academic
ability. No fee is charged.The test is administered once, yearly. Contact the
Career Center for more information.
CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam)
The purpose of the CAHSEE is to ensure that students who graduate from high school can domonstrate grade-level competency in the state content standards for reading, writing, and mathematics. The CAHSEE is aligned to the English-language arts and mathematics content standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
G.E.D. (General
Educational Development Test)
The G.E.D. is offered through Santa Cruz Adult Education to students who are
18 or older. Credits gained from the test may be applied toward a diploma from
Adult Education. For more information, call 429-3966.
CSTs California
Standards Tests (STAR)
These tests are administered in classrooms each spring
to 9th 10th & 11th graders, and provide information about students'
knowledge, skills and progress in reading, math, language, science and
social studies. Contact your student's guidance counselor for further information
P.S.A.T. (Preliminary
Scholastic Aptitude Test - National Merit Exam)
The PSAT is designed for juniors who plan to enter any college and is offered
once each year. SLVHS is one of many test sites. It is thought to be excellent
preparation for the SAT. Sophomores and freshmen that have successfully completed
one year of college prep math may also wish to take the test for practice. This
year’s test will be in October and the exact date is to be announced. Sign up
in the Counseling Office in mid- to late September.
S.A.T. I (Scholastic
Aptitude Test)
This is a required test for admission by most colleges. It is offered several
dates and at several locations around California. SLV offerss the SAT I and II
in October and June. Students
who
plan
to
attend any college/university are encouraged to take the SAT I in the spring
of their
junior year and/or again in the fall of their senior year. Test dates and registration
materials are available in the Career Center in September. A fee is charged.
S.A.T. II
The University of California and other selective colleges require the SAT II.
The University of California requires three subject tests including writing,
math (most students take IC) and a third subject of choice.
