MATHEMATICS
Three years of Mathematics are required.

Algebra A
Grade level: 9-11
Length: one year
UC requirement Fulfilled:
Prerequisite:
This is an algebra course designed for a wide variety of students who need more time to acquire the California mathematics standards necessary to meet the state Algebra 1 requirement. This approach is more "hands-on", interactive and in-depth, with ongoing support of basic mathematics skills. Algebra A is a year long course covering the first half of Algebra 1 standards, as well as review of the general mathematics standards. It may be followed up with Algebra B, thus completing the Algebra 1 requirement. Passing Algebra 1 or both Algebra A and B is a state requirement

Algebra B
Grade level: 9-11
Length: one year
UC requirement Fulfilled:
Prerequisite:
This is an algebra course designed for a wide variety of students who need more time to acquire the California mathematics standards necessary to meet the state Algebra 1 requirement. This approach is more "hands-on", interactive and in-depth, with ongoing support of basic mathematics skills. Algebra B is a year long course covering the second half of Algebra 1 standards. If both Algebra A and Algebra B are completed successfully, then the state Algebra 1 requirement will be fulfilled.

ALGEBRA I
Grade Level: 9-11
Length: 1 year
UC requirement Fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Student placement in this course is by exam, teacher recommendation.
This is your more traditional approach to learning Algebra. Lecture, homework, memorization and new concepts every day will prepare the student for their next step into geometry. Topics covered include linear and quadratic equations, functions, systems of equations in two variables, properties of exponents, radical expressions, irrational numbers, radicals, basic coordinate geometry and word problems related to these topics.

GEOMETRY
Grade Level: 9-12
Length: 1 year
UC Requirement Fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Students must pass Algebra I with a grade of a “C” or better, or Algebra B with a grade of "C" or better.
This course uses a concrete, “hands-on” approach while investigating geometric properties of polygons and circles, while helping students develop an appreciation and an understanding of how geometry frames the world around us. The course’s focus on investigation prepares students for second semester logical reasoning and proof units.

ALGEBRA II
Grade Level: 10-12
Length: 1 year
UC Requirement fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Students must pass Geometry with a grade of “C” or higher.
Topics of Algebra will be explored in greater depth. New topics covered will include sequences and series, complex numbers, logarithmic, exponential and polynomial functions, an introduction to matrices, conic sections, and systems of equations involving more than two variables.

MATH ANALYSIS
Grade Level: 11-12
Length: 1 year
UC Requirement Fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Students must pass Algebra II with a grade of a “C” or better. a "B" or better is recommended.
This course is designed for mathematically talented students planning careers in science, mathematics, or engineering, who will take AP Calculus or AP Statistics. Topics studied include trigonometry, vectors, functions, complex numbers, elementary probability theory, polar coordinates, exponential and logarithmic equations, and equations of lines and planes.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTICS
Grade Level: 11-12
Length: 1 year
UC Requirement Fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Students must have the recommendation of a teacher and pass Math Analysis with a grade of “C” or better, a "B" or better is recommended.
This course is an excellent option for any highly motivated students interested improving their quantitative reasoning skills, especially those planning to pursue college majors such as business, social science, biological science, environmental science, engineering or mathematics.
Students are introduced to major statistical concepts and the tools used for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data. Students who successfully complete the course and AP examination may receive credit and/or advanced placement for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT CALCULUS
Grade Level: 12
Length: l year
UC Requirement Fulfilled: C
Prerequisite: Students must have the recommendation of a teacher and pass Math Analysis with a grade of "B" or better or.
This course is the equivalent to one and one-half semesters of college Calculus, and covers basic differential and integral calculus applications. Students who pass the AP Exam with a 3, 4 or 5, will be eligible for college credit from most colleges.
