ADDITIONAL CREDIT POLICIES

CLASS LOAD
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors must take 6 classes each semester. Seniors must take at least 5 classes each semester.

INCOMPLETE
Any student receiving an incomplete grade at the end of a semester will have fifteen school days to complete the necessary make-up work or tests.

REPEATING CLASSES
Students may repeat a class that they have already passed. Their transcripts will reflect both grades.

STUDENT AIDE
A student aide must be a junior or senior. Only 5 credits per semester and a total of 20 credits toward graduation are permitted in this category. Sophomores may serve as student aides upon request by a teacher.

WITHDRAW/FAILURE PROCEDURE
Students who wish to drop or change an academic class in which they feel inappropriately placed may do so, with the consent of their counselor, within the first three weeks of class. After the start of the fourth week of class, any student dropping a class will receive a "Withdraw/Fail" grade and will forfeit credit. There are two exceptions:

Within the first nine weeks of the semester, students may drop to a lower-level class within the same department.

Students who still feel inappropriately placed may file a petition with the Assistant Principal. Students must:have teacher approval.
have good attendance, demonstrate consistency in homework and request help from the teacher.

SUPPLEMENTAL METHODS OF EARNING CREDIT

VALLEY INDEPENDENT PREP
Valley Independent Prep is a high school program located on the high school campus. It serves students who seek to be educated in a non-traditional setting. VIP is a method of study that allows students to complete his or her graduation requirements using a personalized and individualized approach to learning. Students meet one-on-one with the teacher at a regularly scheduled weekly meeting.

This program is an opportunity to learn and demonstrate self-discipline, responsibility, and maturity. Students are held accountable for producing work and must complete a minimum of 20 hours of homework a week. If students fail to meet the minimum requirements of study, they will be dropped from the program. For further information about the program, call 335-0576.

ADULT SCHOOL/COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOURCES OF CREDIT
With parent/guardian and Assistant Principal permission, students may attend local adult school or community college classes. Up to 30 high school credits toward graduation will be accepted from these sources. Contact a guidance counselor for a release form and further information.

CONTRACT PROGRAMS
In some cases, students who wish to study certain subject areas, which are not offered as part of the regular program, may enter into a contractual agreement with a teacher, counselor, or administrator. This contract will outline a study program, establish definite guidelines and expectations, and require instruction by a professional. Contact a guidance counselor for more information.

WORK EXPERIENCE - (see Special Courses for a description)
Seniors may have a maximum of 10 credits in Work Experience per semester and a total of 40 credits toward graduation.
